BLING-BLING WILDLIFE
It’s a world inhabited by crocodiles sports cars, zebras from space that are determined to zap humanity, pussycats bent on total world domination and gun-toting warthogs. Cameron Platter's brilliant, bright and energetic, cartoonlike video pieces present a world full of bling-bling wildlife, complete with rap-star jewellery and plots that are drawn from hard-boiled detective movies and James Bond fantasy. He presents characters from these works in the form of meticulous large-scale drawings, giant wall paintings, and digital prints. Cameron's work may appear childlike and simplistic at first sight but he is a serious artist who manages to capture perfect spontaneity in a simple drawing and give his viewers an experience that is at once innocent and downright sleazy. Little surprise then that he has been snapped up by local independent film producers, Suburban Films, as its hot new director. His art has only just begun and his has to be one of the most creative young minds working in Cape Town. He is represented by Joao Ferreira Fine Art.
